Should Marijuana be legalized?

Should Marijuana be legalized?

Yes, Marijuana should be legalized because it is one of the least harmful drugs. Marijuana also known as weed, cannabis, herb or Kush is a plant which grows in many tropical and temperate areas around the world. About 147 million people, 2.5% of world population consume cannabis. Even though marijuana is a gateway drug to many other harmful drugs, it is less toxic and addictive compared to cigarettes, alcohol and any other drugs. When it is legalized there is a lower chance of kids accessing this drug since it will be sold in shops and you will require an ID to purchase it. Also kids and youth will be more aware of this herb and also its consequences. THC the chemical contained in this plant is the substance that gives everyone a feeling of highness. If used once, within 6 days the THC will be completely removed from our body making it less harmful compared to the other drugs which need longer time to excrete their toxics. Another fact is that we cannot overdose on marijuana. This plant also has many medicinal values. It can be used to treat glaucoma, it slows down the progression of Alzheimer’s disease, it can stop the dangerous cancerous cells from spreading and there is a lot more to it. Since it is illegal to use marijuana many people find it hard to get hold of it on medical emergencies. Humans have been using this drug for the past 10,000 years and not one single death was ever being reported. This shows that marijuana is much safer than the other drugs. If legalized, taxing this drug can also boost our economy. Marijuana is also used as a stress and pain reliever. Nowadays the medicines that are used for stress relievers and pain killers have countless side effects. Compared to these medications which damages our kidneys and livers, marijuana is much better, natural and helpful. Even though marijuana is a drug and it has its own health risks and side effects, it is still much safer than other substances and therefore it should be legalized.
